Uptown by Champion® Homes: Affordable Innovation in Detroit 

Champion Homes, in partnership with InnovaLab Development Group, proudly presents the Uptown model as MHBA’s May Home of the Month. Located in Detroit’s North Corktown neighborhood, this thoughtfully designed two-story modular home brings contemporary living to an area undergoing exciting revitalization efforts. 

The Uptown model is a two-story pencil-style home designed by InnovaLab Development Group specifically for urban infill on narrow lots. Its compact yet highly functional footprint offers 1,534 square feet of living space, including three bedrooms, two- and- a- half bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining area, and a living room. Despite its slim profile, the home delivers a spacious interior feel, thanks to its open-concept layout, abundant natural light, and generous ceiling heights. 

This project is part of a broader affordable housing initiative supported by the Gilbert Family Foundation, and aimed at providing quality, income-restricted housing near downtown Detroit. Through the use of modular construction, the homes were designed to expedite build times while maintaining high standards of style and durability. 

Inside, the home opens to a thoughtfully designed open-concept space that blends the kitchen, dining, and living areas seamlessly. A custom maple kitchen outfitted with white overhead cabinets and blue base cabinetry creates a fresh, welcoming focal point upon entry. 

Manufactured at Champion’s Liverpool, Pennsylvania, facility, the Uptown model meets established energy efficiency standards, although there are no specific energy efficiency callouts unique to this home. 

By focusing on efficient construction practices, high-quality materials, and thoughtful design, the Uptown model demonstrates how modular housing can meet the demands of urban living while supporting affordability and sustainability.
